CRU STAFF CONFERENCE | 2021

As the Creative Director of the Annual conference organized by one of the largest global organizations focused on mission work, I recognized the importance of striking a balance in designing for a diverse, multigenerational audience. The theme of the conference, "The Unexpected," served as a guiding principle, driving our direction and shaping our approach. Through bold pairings and innovative changes in direction, our design sought to challenge the organization's status quo and present new, unexpected perspectives that would engage and captivate attendees.

CRU STAFF CONFERENCE | 2019

For this conference I was entrusted with the responsibility of Art Directing the remainder of the conference after receiving the initial style guide outsourced by freelance designer Michael van Tonder. Designing a conference is a multifaceted and complex process that involves careful planning and coordination of various elements. As an Art Director, my role was to oversee the design direction of the conference, ensuring that all parts of the event were visually cohesive and engaging. This involved working closely with the event organizers and the design team to create a comprehensive design strategy that would be reflected across all aspects of the conference.

I collaborated with the content team to create a visual framework that would guide the messaging and branding of the event. We worked together to identify key themes and concepts that would resonate with the audience, and then developed a design language that would communicate these ideas effectively. I focused on designing the physical spaces of the conference, such as the main stage, breakout rooms, and exhibition areas.

This required careful consideration of the venue layout, lighting, and signage, as well as the integration of multimedia elements such as video screens, sound systems, and interactive displays.

In addition to the physical spaces, I also designed the conference collateral, such as the event program, badges, and marketing materials. This involved creating a consistent visual identity that would be carried throughout all touchpoints, from the website and social media channels to the physical materials distributed to attendees. Overall, designing a successful conference requires a keen eye for detail and a comprehensive understanding of the event's goals and objectives. By collaborating closely with the event organizers and design team, I was able to bring all of these elements together into a cohesive and engaging experience for attendees.

I oversaw the implementation for sub-brands as well as create collateral for the main conference that brought 5,000+ staff and families of Cru to a college campus for a week. Part of my role was to work on a team to help design art installations that brought the brand to life into spaces. The following are some of the main projects I had my hand in within this project.
